September 2011 -Macsteel Makes Inroads with Skills Development
The Macsteel Service Centres SA Group is Africa's leading merchandiser and distributor of steel and value added steel products, with sales well in excess of a million tons per annum. The Macsteel Adult Education and Training Group in Germiston South, were in high spirits when meeting the Triple E Training quality assurer recently and displayed impressive self-confidence when each learner introduced themselves to the Quality Assurer. They thanked Triple E Training for their education and said that they are learning so much and are very happy with their facilitating agent. The Level 4 learners discussed a sophisticated topic competently before working on individual exercises and an assessment.
Part of the training of all Triple E Training Holdings (Pty) Ltd facilitating agents, involves the discussion around the fact that adults learn:
- 10% through reading
- 20% through hearing
- 30% through doing
- 90% through reading, hearing, speaking & doing!
It is noteworthy that the facilitating agent, Gloria Zinja, is doing exactly this with her learners. And even more positive is that the learners have embraced this and Macsteel is indeed, making inroads into Skills development in South Africa. And to the learners: “Don't limit yourself. Many people limit themselves to what they think they can do. You can go as far as you mind lets you. What you believe, you can achieve.” (Mary Kay Ash)
