LEARN BASIC COMMUNICATION SKILLS - translating words into action

The way company personnel communicate with each other can make all the difference between efficiency and ineptitude, success and failure and to learn basic communication skills means understanding  the other person.  Everyone in the organization has to work hard to get the other person to listen to them and Management must face squarely the challenge of formulating strategies to encourage personnel to communicate effectively,  to learn basic communication skills, not just for office chatter,  but for transmitting vital information.

Triple e builds effective communication for adult learners involved in ABET programs throughout Southern Africa. Effective communication is what propels theoretical knowledge into the world of reality and into action. So often a good idea in business meets with facile acceptance or agreement, but is not translated into action because to learn basic communication skills has not become a reality for many from previously disadvantaged backgrounds.
Some barriers that break down communication:

  • the emotional barrier, comprised mainly of fear, mistrust and suspicion.
  • barriers to your belonging in a group, particularly when someone is culturally different, it may result in a level of game-playing which replaces good communication.
  • speaking in a language that describes what we want to say in our terms may present barriers to others – to learn basic communication skills will familiarise people with  buzz-words and jargon.
