ADULT READING CLASSES - informing and empowering

Adult reading classes are fundamental to an individual’s ability to be self supporting and can help prevent poverty and conflict, helping employees reach their full potential as productive members of society. It is said that 13,2 million people in South Africa have less than a Grade 9
education, making it necessary for company's to concentrate on training and capacity building of employees, as they can actually make or break a company.

Qualifications in the workforce have to change from purely educational qualifications to the ability to deliver the output required for the job, and Managers realise that spending millions on equipment is not cost-effective compared to the amount of money that could be wisely spent on educating and training employees with adult reading classes.

Literacy is the basic requirement in any job as it is about knowing how to read and write. An employee who has poor literacy skills would have to settle for inferior tasks, which severely limits his potential to develop. It should thus be an organisational priority to address the part of Employment Equity that deals with training of all employees, and Managers sensitively convince employees of the benefits of adult reading classes and reassure them that the purpose is to uplift employees through these classes.

Once candidates are able to read several English sentences, are able to understand and speak basic English, they are ready to embark on the ABET level 3&4 programme. Empowerment begins with better education and well trained skills; pre-requisites for improved access to economic opportunities, and Triple e Training has presented adult reading classes to a huge spectrum of industries, some of our bigger being Bridgestone, Afrox and Sasol. With outstanding pass rates in excess of 99% per annum for the last 7 years, no company can doubt that by introducing adult reading classes to 'not-up-to-scratch' managers down to the lowest rank holder,  a more efficient workforce will march in.
