ABET
Background on SETASETA is the acronym for the Sector Education and Training Authority. SETA organizations have been established in 2000 under the auspices of the Minister of Labour with the aim of contributing to skills development, raising the standard of training and doing so for specific sectors within the economy. There are currently more than 20 SETA organizations in South Africa that strive towards the above goals. The National Skills Development Strategy has been introduced as part of the skills development plan to ensure that individuals and groups learn the required skills that will ensure that they can make a positive contribution to their employer workforce, their immediate communities, and society as a whole. The aim is not to only train young people for their first jobs, but rather to ensure that both first time workers and people already in jobs enhance their skills. The idea is to set specific standards for training to ensure that qualifications obtained in one province can also be recognized in another. The aim is thus quality control that will ensure that qualifications obtained in South Africa can also be recognized internationally.
