FINANCIAL LIFE SKILLS
learning for a better life

Individuals need banks because banks act as intermediaries between people who want to save money and those who want to borrow money.  Modern banks provide a wide range of services to the public, and financial life skills means understanding how you can make your money grow if you choose the right investments and want to start building a secure financial future.

Millions of South Africans are blacklisted and cannot access credit, and increasing numbers of employed South Africans are finding themselves drowning in debt, with employers reporting growing numbers of  increasing absenteeism, lower productivity and poor morale. Increasing numbers of people are making use of dubious financial services providers because of financial life skills ignorance, and savings levels among South Africans is dropping dramatically.

The reality is that many adult South Africans have never developed financial life skills, and the fundamental concepts of  cash flow, income, expenditure, budgeting and disciplined saving are complex and foreign. Some employees even have difficulty operating a basic calculator and don't know how to calculate the change they need to receive for taxi transport.

A financial life skills training course, specifically aligned to SAQA  standards, starting at NQF level 1 can help employees with the following basic money concepts before going on to more advanced financial skills on higher levels:

  • explains why it is important to manage and save money
  • employees will learn how to set financial goals for themselves and their family
  • employees will be able to draw up a budget and manage their budget
  • learn how to generate additional income

People who can think creatively and for themselves are in high demand in this fast changing economy, and through acquiring financial life skills, you will have an understanding of financial statements and basic accounting to learn how to trade, grow your money, accumulate assets and ultimately engage in investments, and so the battle against poverty is waged and won.
