ADULT BASIC TRAINING brings
them up to society's requirements

An adult with low literacy skills who cannot effectively negotiate the health care system, an adult who is an uninformed consumer, and an adult who cannot obtain and keep steady employment that gives her and her family security, is much less able to provide this kind of preparation or world-readiness for her children, and sadly, children of functionally illiterate adults share the legacy of their parents’ educational, economic, and social limitations. Adult basic training means that adults can begin to master the basics of reading and writing and bring them up to society's minimum requirements regarding the command of written language, which is a pre-condition for participation in written communication in all areas of work and life.

Adult basic training teaches skills and attitudes necessary to succeed at work and in the community, and at Triple e, we actively encourage the implementation of adult basic training within the workplace.

At present, millions of South Africans still battle to read or write and cannot put these skills to any useful purpose or manipulate numerical concepts.  Thankfully this adult training transcends literacy and targets learning outcomes that empower, enabling millions of adults to achieve at least the equivalent of grade 9, and beyond. Adult basic training gives qualifications that carry credit in the National Qualifications Framework which enables adults to actually proceed to further education and ABET centres, made accessible to all learners, even in the remotest parts, are found in community learning centres managed by local communities and supported by the Education Department.

Outcomes based, learners begin to think for themselves and to learn from the work environment they find themselves in. Everyone has the right to adult basic training, and at Triple e we promote the potential of all our adult learners and we foster  a culture which promotes fundamental human rights while at the same time creating an appropriate environment for adult teaching and learning.
