Learners normally want to know how long it will take them to complete and pass one of the ABET learner programs. It depends on the levels taken, how many hours a week the learner attends one of the ABET learner programs, and the pace at which the learner works. The more hours invested, and the quicker the pace, the faster a level will be completed. In general you will need to set out 4-6 hours a week for 6-10 months to complete a level in one of the ABET learner programs. The timeframe is a guideline only, but in general learners have the ability to complete a level in under a year ensuring that they can quickly gain their valuable qualifications recognised throughout South Africa.

ABET stands for Adult Basic Education & Training and is a government and industry driven initiative to promote a higher level of education for adults in the country. The ABET program has strict regulations regarding qualifications, method of instruction, materials used, outcomes and thus the overall improvement of all skills that can be recognized on national level. It helps adults that have not been to school or have not completed their school education to get a chance in improving their literacy, numeracy, life orientation and other skills. It is thus empowerment through education. A society where literacy levels are high will function at a higher level, bringing more development and eradicating poverty as well as reducing crime because of unemployment. With ABET training employers empower their workers to become skilled in specific areas, gain qualifications and thus make a positive contribution to the workplace and society as a whole.
