ABET means a new outlook

Wednesday, December 9th, 2009

The South African constitution frames several rights that cannot be denied to any South Africa, perhaps one of the most important of these rights is the right to an education. Without an education one is relegated to the fringes of society and doomed to a life of menial labour. Unfortunately this right has only been recognised as universal since South Africa became a democratic country. For decades before this most of the population received an education that was woefully inadequate. This has led to widespread illiteracy. Today ABET programs are rectifying the mistakes of the past and allowing the previously disenfranchised a new outlook.

Training is key

Wednesday, December 9th, 2009

Education is enshrined in the South African constitution as a basic human right. Unfortunately this was not always so. Under the Apartheid educational system only a select few were provided a world class education and even this was skewed by the propaganda requirements of the government. However those who were not amongst the privileged few received either a sub standard education or none at all. This is the legacy that Adult Basic Education and Training is striving to eradicate. ABET programs are making a difference to the lives of people across South Africa. By bringing literacy to the dis empowered ABET programs are changing lives.

ABET program’s good for business

Wednesday, December 9th, 2009

Adult Basic Education and Training is essential to remedy the legacy of the Apartheid educational system When correctly applied it enables learners to grasp the fundamental of both literacy and numeracy. If the learner progresses from ABT level 1 to ABET level 4 they should have the skills of a grade 12 learner and be able to contribute significantly more to a business than would otherwise be the case. For this reason business is becoming more and more involved in providing employees with opportunities to take part in ABET programs. However government and business are also concerned with improving the learners quality of life and allowing them to contribute meaningfully to the growth of South Africa.

ABET for rural areas

Wednesday, February 25th, 2009

ABET has grown from the goals of church groups, communities and schools to develop Adult Basic Education and Training programs to address the illiteracy and lack of essential numeracy as well as life skills which plague the South African economy. Many of the persons needing ABET are older women in rural areas. The women are informed and have skills to share, but their lack of literacy hinders their ability to contribute to society. Through ABET programs, the women can be taught essential skills which they can apply in community projects such as AIDS awareness programs and at charity organizations where they can help to uplift the poor citizens of the country. Companies often look at areas where they can contribute regarding social responsibility. By enrolling employees and helping to facilitate ABET programs also at rural areas, companies will be give an enormous gift back to society and their workforce. Contact us to enroll or sponsor enrollment of people in one of our ABET programs.

FAQ about ABET training levels – Cost

Wednesday, January 21st, 2009

Cost is always a concern and understandably so because life is expensive and people have limited budgets. The cost for ABET training levels differ according to the specific level, subjects, place, books and more. The average cost for the completion of one of the ABET training levels ranges from R1400 to R1800 a learner. This also of course includes the lectures, hands-on classes, work material and more. When considering that the timeframe for completion of one of the ABET training levels is around 6 to 10 months, it is a cost effective method for gaining skills required to compete in life and the workplace. It should be noted that many variables work in on the cost of each of the ABET training levels and as such we recommend that you contact us for a more accurate quote.

What is a Portfolio of Evidence as part of ABET programs?

Wednesday, January 21st, 2009

Once a learner completes a level of one of the ABET programs he or she can write an exam. The second option for qualification purposes regarding ABET programs is to submit a Portfolio of Evidence which is also called the POE. Whereas the exam is a once off testing of a learner’s skills and proficiency of the specific outcomes of the ABET programs, the POE makes it possible to assess the learner’s proficiency over the whole period. Whereas the exam cannot test the learner’s competency for each area of the attended ABET programs and leads to either a fail or pass based on one assessment, the POE allows for assessment of the learner against every outcome for that specific level. The learner will thus have to provide evidence for each outcome of his or her understanding to pass a level. The facilitator should assist the learner to become competent for each of the outcomes in one of the levels of the specific ABET programs.
