Triple e not only provides literacy and numeracy courses, we also provide basic conversational skills training which includes African language courses. English and Afrikaans speakers often struggle to communicate with their colleagues and workers because of the language gap. Our African language courses include Zulu, South and North Sotho, as well as Tswana and Xhosa. We do a pre-assessment orally with each attendee to ensure that the candidate starts the African language courses at the correct level. This also enables us to customize the learning material and the African language courses to fit the requirements of the attendees.

Our adult math classes are so popular with attendees because we present the adult math classes in a way that keep their skills level in mind. We also cater for the various learning methods, thinking styles and also the time schedule of the attendees. Many adults never improve their numeracy skills simply because the scheduling of the classes don’t take into account that the attendees work shifts, have transport problems or that the attendees don’t comprehend the information at all. We consider all the factors that influence adult learners and also work to motivate them, inspire them and show them practical evidence that what they are learning can be applied to their work environment immediately. Enrol your employees in one of our adult math classes and experience the difference it can make in their proficiency and competence level.

Triple e has tremendous success with adult learning classes and the reason for this is that we address issues that many other programs ignore. We take specific factors into consideration when preparing the adult learning classes. As such our adult learning classes are based on specific principles to promote success:
• Link goals of the learner with what is taught
• Provide applicable knowledge that can be used in day to day living and the workplace
• Give them practical evidence that what they are learning is worth something
• Allow the learners to work at their own pace
• Respect the various ways in which people learn
• Show them how they can solve problems in their workplace with the knowledge gained
• Schedule classes to accommodate the learner’s time, transport needs, and responsibilities
• Provide opportunities to discuss, solve problems, and work out scenarios in class.

There are numerous factors that affect adults learning English. The first factor is that of native tongue. Some languages are related to English and others not at all. The native tongue will thus determine how easy the comprehension of the English language will be. It is for this reason that we have assessments to determine the learner’s skills level, native tongue, and educational background first. We then start the program at the level where they can work and learn with confidence. Another factor that affects adults learning English is that of educational background. Learners with no prior education will naturally take a bit longer to build literacy skills and will thus require a program suitable for their way of learning. Fortunately we meet every person learning English at his or her level of comprehension and educational background.

Adult literacy programs address the specific adult reading skills development phases. It is important to identify the phases and at what level the specific learner is to create appropriate adult reading skills development programs as part of literacy training. The adult reading skills development phases are as follows:
Initial decoding stage
Confirmation and fluency
Using prior knowledge in reading and acquiring facts
Reading strategy development
Application of skills
It is important to help adults through the reading skills development stages and to ensure that they don’t get stuck at one of the levels. As such our programs have been developed to keep their interest and to accelerate the learning ability.

Studies have shown that students who out of their own accord enrol in further education or adult basic training are often more motivated than others and know why they are doing the courses. Since they have goals they are more likely to succeed. Fear is seen as one of the biggest obstacles for adult learners. Our fantastic pass rate is enough evidence, but we do more than that. We create an environment where the adult learners are comfortable and ensure that we help them to succeed.
