Learnership Fundamentals
We live in a society where access to information and proficiency with technology are becoming more important, requiring people to have certain levels of knowledge and skills, and learnershipfundamentals addresses those with relatively few educational qualifications, who are likely to be unemployed and, on average, have lower incomes when in work; affecting their economic standard of living as well as their security and ability to make choices about their lives, and knowledge and skills are important learnership fundamentals for gaining access to services.
What is a learnership?
It's a unique route to a qualification; it's an education programme, which combines work-based experience with structured learning, combining theoretical knowledge with practical workplace experience and is intended as a route into a career.
One has to remember that many of the learners come from disadvantaged backgrounds where they have not had the chance to learn valuable relational skills that they will need in the workplace and with learnership fundamentals they are taught the importance of dressing well for work, how to communicate etc. The learners will be teamed up with mentors and will either be given work to do themselves or they will observe, giving them the opportunity to hands-on experience of the workplace.
The learner is monitored and on-site support will be available to ensure the practicals are effective. Learnership fundamentals is to take part in the learnership and learn life-skills, numeracy and literacy competencies as well as communication skills.
These fundamentals provide -
- theoretical and practical skills development
- a route to a qualification
- a year or more to complete the learning
- a work environment for the learnership
- an assessor or a mentor to assist the learner
In order to be facilitators for learnership fundamentals, educators must understand how the workplace community thinks and talks, and for that very reason Triple e, understanding what the workforce of the future will require, assists in making radical changes to unskilled people, and , equipping them with vital employable skills.
