Lifelong Skills with ABET Fundamentals

ABET fundamentals is that learning which forms the grounding or basis needed to undertake the further learning required in obtaining a qualification. Given the high number of employees with little or no formal schooling that has characterized certain industries for some years, regular research, monitoring and evaluation of changing trends with regard to ABET provision and improvement is necessary. ABET fundamentals is to develop, establish, maintain, and operate educational, training and employment programs which will promote the cause of community education. Research has indicated that literacy and numeracy are essential basics for success in further learning, and it is imperative that ABET levels 1 and 2 focus on the teaching of literacy and numeracy.

 

Adult Basic Education and training is the general foundation towards lifelong learning and development, comprising knowledge, skills and attitudes required for social and economic participation.

 

ABET fundamentals:

  • flexible, developmental and targeted at the specific needs of particular people,
  • provides access to nationally recognized certificates,
  • literacy – the acquisition and use of reading, writing and numeracy skills and thereby the development of active citizenship, improved health and livelihoods and gender equality.

Learning is not the sole property of formal education, but can actually take place anywhere, anytime and through any means, but it must meet nationally required standards though. There are plenty of sites for learning, and this learning takes place in the workplace and at community facilities where learners can use all sorts of technologies to access learning via a host of providers. ABET fundamentals has an integrated approach to education and training, and allows people to learn what they want, when and in what form, to satisfy their cultural and career development.
