ABET Graduation at SASOL Nitro - October 2007

Sasol Nitro's annual ABET graduation was held on 29 October 2007.

At this prestigious event learners were honoured and given recognition for their ABET achievements this year.

Some of the learners / employees have completed 3 levels in the 1 year, which was extraordinary.

We were treated to a delicious three course meals. Learner received their certificates as well as statues.

I have attended many ceremonies, but I must admit for me personally the speech by one of our Level 1 Communication ABET learner - Johannes Ndlovu was truly moving.

A Copy of the Speech

"Ladies and Gentleman, Good Morning.

I would like to thank Sasol Management to make this function successful. I feel honoured, presented and more dignified when I was been appointed to deliver this speech on behalf of my college.

Ladies and gentleman since I started attending ABET School, I have achieved, to read and write, able to communicate with supervisors and fellow employees. Through ABET I can be able to fill all the bank statement without asking any help from other people. As we all know that world cup 2010 will be in South Africa, communication will be very essential, because we have to welcome all kind of people from different countries.

One day when I was reading a newspaper, I came across an article written as follows:
"The 8th of September was international literacy day - a day use by the united nation and international community to remind us that there are still about 780 million people in the world who cannot read and write. The majority of those people live in sub Sahara Africa". Reading and writing and literacy are some of the most important skills we humans need in order to participate in social and economic activities and to reduce poverty. Imagine if you were unable to read the words on this page. Being illiterate is hugely disempowering!

I would also like to thank our facilitator Duduzile Gwebu. She has done a wonderful job, whatever question you may ask, she can be able to help you. After completing ABET School, we would like if Sasol can help us by providing us with computers to further our studies.

I wish you all the best, Thank you all.

Johannes Ndlovu"
